Congratulations to the CCS High School Lit Mag and Media Team, along with CCS Advisor JoAnn Gardner, for their Gold Medal Honor in the 2018 Robert F. Kennedy Speak Truth to Power Video Contest. The contest is sponsored by the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Foundation in partnership with the American Federation of Teachers and the Tribeca Film Institute. Students across the country were challenged to produce movies about international or local human rights defenders whose work echoes that of Robert F. Kennedy and ties into the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. CCS students chose to make a documentary about Shelly Callahan and the Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees. Rainer Gardner-Olesen, Kara Gildea, Eric Kukenberger, Sam Lytel, Ellie Pink, Lola Thompson and Peter Weil interviewed staff and clients at the Center and filmed a Citizenship Ceremony conducted by the Honorable David Hurd at The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York. “The greatest voice is the voice of the people - speaking out - in prose, or painting or poetry or music; speaking out - in homes and halls, streets and farms, courts and cafes. Let that voice speak and the stillness you hear will be the gratitude of mankind.” - Robert F. Kennedy Video attached: CCS HS Lit Mag and Media Team Gold Medal Honor entry to the 2018 Robert F.
