Monday, May 15, 2019 - The CCS Leadership Training for Athletes announces the 2019 Cooperstown 5K Color Run/Walk on Thursday, June 13, 2019. The race will begin at 3:30pm on the CCS Track. Bring your friends and family and make your way through several color splash stations around the CCS campus. Cross the finish line back on the CCS track to celebrate with friends. This event is organized by the CCS Leadership Training for Athletes and all proceeds will be donated to the American Heart Association. It was great to see the community support send off the tennis team this morning in Fly Creek. They will be competing in Utica for the Section 3 title.

The CCS Music Department will host the 2019 Jazz Concert on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 7:00pm in the Sterling Auditorium at Cooperstown Central School. This concert is free and open to the public. Wednesday, May 15, 2019 - CCS Class of 2019 students Hailey Seamon and Tiffany Pagillo took First Place at the New York State Health Occupation Students of America (NY HOSA) competition with awards in Forensic Science and Nursing Assistant events respectively. Seamon and Pagillo will be competing in the Forensic Science Team Event at the annual HOSA International Leadership Competition which takes place in Orlando, Florida on June 19-22. Forensic Science Competition: The purpose of the Forensic Science competition is to encourage HOSA members to analyze careers in forensic science and to work as a team to apply their knowledge and skills in creating a solution to the forensic science-related problem. This event included two rounds of competition. The first round challenged participants in a written test to evaluate the team’s understanding of forensic science. The top scoring teams advanced to round two where they analyzed a case study related to forensic science and provided written conclusions. Seamon and Pagillo both achieved a First Place finish in this competition. Nursing Assistant Competition: The purpose of this competition was to provide HOSA members with an opportunity to develop and demonstrate knowledge and skills in nursing assisting. This event will consisted of two rounds of competition. The first round included a written, multiple choice test to measure knowledge and understanding in the subject. The top scoring competitors advanced to round two for the timed and evaluated performance of selected skills identified in a written scenario. Congratulations to the CCS High School Lit Mag and Media Team, along with CCS Advisor JoAnn Gardner, for their Gold Medal Honor in the 2018 Robert F. Kennedy Speak Truth to Power Video Contest. The contest is sponsored by the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Foundation in partnership with the American Federation of Teachers and the Tribeca Film Institute. Students across the country were challenged to produce movies about international or local human rights defenders whose work echoes that of Robert F. Kennedy and ties into the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. CCS students chose to make a documentary about Shelly Callahan and the Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees. Rainer Gardner-Olesen, Kara Gildea, Eric Kukenberger, Sam Lytel, Ellie Pink, Lola Thompson and Peter Weil interviewed staff and clients at the Center and filmed a Citizenship Ceremony conducted by the Honorable David Hurd at The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York. “The greatest voice is the voice of the people - speaking out - in prose, or painting or poetry or music; speaking out - in homes and halls, streets and farms, courts and cafes. Friday, May 10, 2019 - The National Circus Project came to town this week and they are making a splash at Cooperstown Elementary School. CCS Students K-6 were challenged during Physical Education classes this week to use self-discipline and patience and develop good practice habits as they faced new circus skills and collaborated with their classmates. The National Circus Project is an educational outreach program with over 30 years of experience and serving schools throughout the Northeast. On Friday, May 10, CCS 3rd grade students treated all in attendance to a dazzling display of balance, skill, teamwork and patience - graced with a touch of humor. This program was made possible at CCS Elementary School by the generous contributions of Cooperstown Foundation for Excellence in Education, The Heilig Foundation and the Cooperstown PTA. Special thanks also to Mary & John Tedesco for opening their home to house our circus guests during their visit with us in Cooperstown. The 2019 CCS Student Art Show will remain on display at the Cooperstown Art Association on Main Street Cooperstown through May 17th. Highlighted pieces include CCS student work grades K-12.

The stage is set for the 2018-2019 CCS Scholastic Awards Night - 7pm in The CCS Sterling Auditorium. CCS Faculty & Administration will celebrate excellence in education with our CCS student community this evening. Enjoy this special evening open to the public.

Jen Pindar, CCS Social Studies Department, celebrated AP European History Exam day yesterday with breakfast and live feed review in our CCS classroom with Tom Richey from South Carolina. Students in Miss Pindar’s class joined over 3,000 students nationwide yesterday engaging with Richey’s AP European live feed channel review. Yesterday’s celebration capped several weeks of CCS student and teacher commitment to review classes before and after school in preparation for all AP Exams this week. Go Hawkeyes!

Wednesday, May 8, 2019 - The 2018-2019 CCS Quiz Team returned an impressive 5th place finish for Very Small Schools and 11th place Overall finish in two days of competition with 80 other public school teams at the NAQT (National Academic Quiz Teams, LLC) Small School National Championship. Coach Chalya Pudlewski led this year’s CCS Quiz Team: photographed from left, Jonathan Stone, Ray Hovis, Adam Ilgin (Captain), and Kyle Meyer. Ilgin’s school record-setting individual performance earned him an All-Star Award as the 8th ranked player in the tournament. Cooperstown Mayor Ellen Tillapaugh visited Cooperstown Elementary School this afternoon, along with Cooperstown Graduate Program students, to present a proclamation for students K-6 in celebration of tonight's Museum Night at CCS Elementary. Tuesday May 7, 6-7:30pm

If you missed the opening reception for the 2019 CCS "Our Town" Exhibit last week, there's still time to view the exhibit on display through the month of May at The Fenimore Art Museum. This week enjoy TWO fabulous CCS events highlighting student work: Museum Night at CCS Elementary School includes special exhibits created by Cooperstown Elementary students in collaboration with the Cooperstown Graduate Program. (Tue. 5/7, 6-7:30pm) Art & Music Night will showcase the best works students have created throughout the year. Explore a wide range of artwork from grades K-7, and CCS High School art courses including: Studio Arts, Illustration and Design, Drawing and Painting, and Ceramics. (Wed. 5/8, 5-7pm)

We have some great weather today for the Don Howard Track and Field meet. 13 teams from all over the state filled Lambert field to compete.

Congratulations to Genevieve Landry as she accepts her award during the 2019 American Bar Association’s Law Day ceremony! The 2019 theme- “Free Speech, Free Press, Free Society” focuses on these cornerstones of representative government. Genevieve plans to study International Economics at The University of British Columbia after commencement and graduation from Cooperstown High.

Congratulations to all the student-athletes who signed their Celebratory Form today in front of a packed CCS library. We are so fortunate to have a supportive school community.

2019 CCS Art & Music Night at The Cooperstown Art Association Wednesday, May 8, 5-7pm Art Exhibit Open during the month of May The 2019 CCS Art & Music Night will highlight a month-long exhibit of CCS Grades K-12 student artwork from the 2018-2019 academic year, as well as collaborative artwork from Milford Central School Elementary students and CCS Elementary students. Enjoy music throughout the evening by CCS musicians and CCS Jazz Band. The evening is open to the public and free of admission.
