Parents of CCS Elementary Students,
During this time of COVID, and in an effort to continue keeping our students and staff safe, we are asking that no valentines be brought in from home. While we know this is nontraditional, it is a way we can continue containing germs from one another during the exchange. Teachers will be doing their own activities during class instead of a valentine exchange to make the day special. Continued support is always appreciated as we work toward our common goal of safety for all. Additionally, no treats from home such as birthday cupcakes or even packaged goods are to be shared in the classroom. Thank you.
Respectfully,
Tracy Durkee

CCS students in Kindergarten Teacher Karen Hill’s class are learning about hibernating bears, just in time for the beautiful winter storm. Last week students crafted bears, shared stories and wrote about feeling sleepy like a hibernating bear. Students designed their own cozy "den" at home for Friday's Zoom meeting and nestled in for a teacher read-aloud of "The Bear Snores On" by Karma Wilson.

Friday, January 29, 2021 (Cooperstown, NY) - CCS thanks our community members who have been taking their time and resources to support CCS Faculty, Staff and Students during this very challenging time in education. Special thanks to the Cooperstown Board of Education for the delightful coffee carts rolling throughout each school today as staff enjoyed a delicious hot treat in a safe distanced manner! A warm thank you as well to Stewart’s, Stagecoach Coffee, NYPizza and many local families who continue to generously support our CCS community with tokens of gratitude and appreciation. With your support for our CCS students, the smiles are larger, the motivation is stronger, and the celebrations are tastier. The partnership of families, educators, volunteers and our local community is not complete without our local businesses. This circle of support helps ensure that kids have the support and resources they need for success, especially during this incredibly difficult time in education. CCS Music Teacher Tim Iversen’s 7th Grade class created an “Influence Tree” this month. Students selected a contemporary artist whose music they admire and traced back their influences like a family tree, selecting two additional artists who influenced each artist through five “generations.” For each artist, students researched the characteristics of their music and listened to some of the artist’s most popular songs, recognizing how one artist influences another.
Iversen designed this project to introduce students to new artists they may not have heard before and brought students a perspective on music history. Students also learned how some artists had a wide-spread influence over many other later musicians in history.
“Let music connect us. Something wonderful will happen.” - Armin Van Buuren
