READ&WRITE SOFTWARE

read and write logo

snapverter logo

“Read&Write … makes the web, documents and files more accessible – any time, any place, and on any platform or device.

It’s great for people with dyslexia and other learning difficulties, or anyone whose first language isn’t English.

From reading on-screen text aloud to researching and checking written work, Read&Write makes lots of everyday tasks easier.

It’s a big confidence booster for anyone who needs a little extra help with their reading and writing, at school or in the workplace.” – texthelp.com

Read&Write Software is managed through the CSE Department and maintained by the I.T. Department. For any technical questions or training, please contact the CSE Office.“Snapverter is an easy to use add-on for Read&Write for Google Chrome™ that transforms classroom papers and files into readable PDF documents for easy sharing and reading aloud via Google Drive. Pick any inaccessible file to convert – or just grab your smartphone and snap a photo of paper documents. Then share converted files with students and other teachers on any device – PCs, Macs, Chromebooks or tablets.” – texthelp.com

READ&WRITE

CHROMEBOOK

Logon with your @ccsmail.org account. After your account synchronizes, you should see a puzzle piece (similar to the logo above) in the upper right-hand corner.

Click the puzzle piece to open the Read&Write toolbar. If you are using Read&Write for the first time, you need to click AGREE on the permissions and terms pop-up, on first run.

CHROME (PC OR MAC)

Chromebooks automatically sign into Chrome. You do NOT have to complete this step.

Open Chrome and click the “users” button in the top-right of the browser window. Login to Chrome with your @ccsmail.org Google account. After you login, you should see a puzzle piece (similar to the logo, above) in the upper right-hand corner. If you need additional help with logging into Chrome, check out the Google Support website.

Alternatively, you can also install the Chrome app in the Chrome Store.

Click the puzzle piece to open the Read&Write toolbar. If you are using Read&Write for the first time, you need to click AGREE on the permissions and terms pop-up, on first run.

EDGE (PC)

Open Edge and Navigate to the Microsoft Store, install and activate the Read&Write extension. Click the puzzle piece to open the Read&Write toolbar. If you are using Read&Write for the first time, you need to click AGREE on the permissions and terms pop-up, on first run.

PC OR MAC

This is Already Installed on District Owned Computers.

For at-home use, you may download and install Read&Write via TextHelp’s website. Once installed, the student can sign-in with their @ccsmail.org Google Account, for authentication. We can provide it via CD or your personal flash drive, if you do not have internet access to download it at home.

Please note, that Internet Access is not required to either install, activate, or use the program. An offline version is available with built-in authentication.

Double-click the Read&Write shortcut (start menu, desktop, app center, …) and the toolbar should open.

NOTICE: Make sure the user who is signed-in, is the user using the PC. Settings are synced with their profile. The program also only allows the user to be logged into ONE computer at a time. With the latest Spring ’17 update, Read&Write is now single sign-on, which means all user profile settings are synced via their Google account – regardless of what device they use, on and off campus!

SNAPVERTER

Staff under the ccsmail.org domain, already have this program as a forced-install.

This program makes it easier to scan and convert documents that do not have actual text, that screen readers can read. This is the recommended way to “scan” documents and convert for Read&Write.
