(Rebecca Burk-Sciallo)COOPERSTOWN – Cooperstown Junior-Senior High School English Teacher Rebecca Burk-Sciallo has been selected to share a story she submitted on the PBS series Stories from the Stage.
A collaboration of WORLD and WGBH-TV Boston, Stories from the Stage “invites ordinary people from all walks of life, each with a unique life experience, on stage to share their extraordinary first-person experiences exploring everything from identity and representation to love and family,” according to the program’s official website.
Burk-Sciallo said she submitted a 250-word pitch of a true story that connected to the theme of truth and consequence, and then she was required to submit a 1,700-word true written story elaborating on her pitch idea. Finally, she had to film herself reading and performing her piece on camera.
After this long process and several callbacks, Burk-Sciallo was chosen by the producers of the series to travel to Boston and present her story in front of a live studio audience on April 15.
“I’m incredibly honored, excited and nervous!” Burk-Sciallo said. “Thank you to each person who wished me well or sent a beautiful message. I appreciate you. CCS, thanks for being a part of my story these past 24 years.”
While there is currently no set date for her episode to air on PBS, it will be shown in 100 countries and be a part of the Stories from the Stage online collection. It’ll also be available as a part of a podcast.
