The League of Women Voters of the Cooperstown Area will hold a candidates’ debate for residents of the Cooperstown Central School District on Tuesday, May 1, 2018. The event will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Jr./Sr. High School Library.
Four individuals seeking to fill three seats on the Cooperstown Central School Board of Education will debate. Two incumbents seeking reelection are Marcy Birch and Anthony Scalici. Two new candidates are Nancy Areliusson and Matt Schuermann.
The League believes that providing a forum for citizens to meet and engage in dialogue around school district issues is important. The debate aims to:
- Educate the public about the issues in the campaign
- Provide an opportunity for voters to witness candidates discuss those issues face-to-face
- Stimulate public interest and participation in the election
- Provide an opportunity for the public to engage the candidates.
The school board and budget vote will be Tuesday, May 15, 2018, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
