Cooperstown student reaches finals stage of the National Merit Scholarship Program

A male student is seen.Officials of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) recently announced that Wriley Nelson, a senior at Cooperstown Central School, is one of approximately 15,000 finalists in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program.

The nationwide pool of finalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors.  These academically talented students will continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more the $32 million.  These scholarships will be awarded in the spring.

Wriley Nelson and all finalists fulfilled several requirements to advance to this level of the competition.  Approximately half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship and earn the Merit Scholar title.  The faculty, staff and administration of Cooperstown Central School congratulate Wriley on this and all of his academic accomplishments.
