To all Staff and Students’ Families and Caregivers,
As of today, we have used all five emergency days built into the 2016-17 School District Calendar plus an additional day. We must, however, still fulfill our mandated responsibility to be “in session” for 180 school days.
To accomplish this, we will move our originally scheduled Superintendent’s Conference Day from Friday, March 17, 2017 to Friday, April 14, 2017.
Please note that students will now attend school this Friday, March 17, 2017 to “make up” for this needed instructional day. All staff will also report for instruction this day.
All staff will report for the rescheduled Superintendent’s Conference Day on Friday, April 14, 2017 (originally a scheduled vacation holiday). Students will not attend school on Friday, April 14, 2017.
In the event of another school closure in the near future, we have little choice and very limited options to schedule an additional day of instruction with all staff and students in attendance. Through necessity, however, that second make-up date for all students and staff is schedule to be Friday, April 14, 2017. Students and Staff will be required to attend school that day in order to meet the mandated responsibility to be “in session” for 180 days. Subsequently, the staff Superintendent’s Conference Day will be rescheduled for Friday, April 21, 2017.
I realize that these changes may impact family’s and staff’s vacation plans, but please understand that all public schools are bound by the Commissioner of Education to be “in session” for 180 days, regardless of circumstances.
Thank you for your understanding and for giving this letter your utmost attention.
Dr. William Crankshaw, Superintendent of Schools
