Healthy bodies lead to healthy minds and a school nurse plays an important role in education.
Medications in School
Medications in school, including over-the-counter, must be kept in the Elementary School Nurse’s Office and must be administered by the school nurse. Medications must be delivered by a parent in its original container, accompanied by written doctor’s instructions and parent permission.
Absent notes are required on the day a student returns to school after being out ill. Tardy (arriving late to school) and early dismissal notes should be sent in that day. Out-of-town or vacation excuses should be sent in prior to leaving.
Scoliosis screenings will be done at least once each school year, if not already done and documented on the child’s health certificate (physical), for all students in grades 5 through 9.
All students shall be screened for distance acuity in grades kindergarten, 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and 10 and at any other time deemed necessary.
All students shall have their hearing screened in grades kindergarten, 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10.
Parents will be notified about failed screenings.
