| June 4, 2018

ONC BOCES is once again hosting free summer CTE camps for students going into grades 7 through 9 at both its occupational centers.

The deadlines are approaching, so apply today!

The camps are designed to be an introduction into areas covered by some of the CTE programs offered at the occupational centers for high school juniors and seniors. With a focus on experiential learning in a safe, fun environment, the programs are designed to introduce students to disciplines they may choose to pursue later in high school.

Students may sign up for morning or afternoon sessions, that run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m. respectively. Transportation is not included.

The camps will be hosted at Otsego Area Occupational Center in Milford.

The courses dates and times are as follows:

Cosmetology
Students will be able to experience life behind the scenes in a salon. Focus on proper techniques with hair and nail services will occur with emphasis on how to provide shampoo services, detangling hair, and blow drying techniques, proper manicure procedures, and nail art practices. Student will work with the latest implements and technologies. A special presentation will be given on make-up. Review of business and career opportunities will be discussed in both the hair and salon industry.

New Visions Engineering Summer Robotics
Students will be introduced to basic robotics using Lego EV3 Robotics Kits. They will learn the basics of building and programming robots. The theme this year will be Sustainable Food Systems. Students will plan, solve problems, and work as a team to construct and program a robot to complete the specific tasks related to the theme. At the end of the week the students will present their ideas and thought processes to the entire group, and will attempt to complete as many of the tasks as they can in a friendly competition.
OAOC dates are August 6 through August 10

Information Technology
This class gives your students a chance to create computer code in the same environment that actual programmers use. This class is not a “click next” type of coding class where the students follow a pre-set website. We will be creating programs in the Python computer language.
OAOC dates are August 6 through August 10

Building Trades
Students will wear safety glasses provided by BOCES and must wear closed toed shoes. There is an emphasis on shop and equipment safety. Students will learn proper measurement techniques and use small power tools, such as nail guns, saws, and staple guns to make a project, such as a stool, bird house, or small shelving unit.
