Dear Residents of Cooperstown Central School District: Each school year brings a new class of wide-eyed Kindergarteners beginning their thirteen-years of school and a new class of ambitious Seniors starting their final year before higher education, the work-world, or military service. And as we learn from the reflections of those Seniors graduating each year, all the years in between bring important and memorable life experiences for academic and personal growth. The Board of Education extends a special welcome to our 2011 class of Kindergarteners as well as to students of other grades new to Cooperstown and their parents. We want all parents to know that your interests and concerns are ours. The Superintendent, Principals, and each Board Member are always open to questions and suggestions about school-related matters. New parents should also become familiar with the school-support groups they can be a part of. These organizations bring meaningful activities and events to students of all grades. Energy and ideas that new individuals bring keep these organizations vibrant. The most significant change the 2011-12 school year finds is the sixth-grade move back to the Elementary School after twenty-one years as a Grades Six through Eight Middle School in the Middle/High School building. Declining student numbers reached a critical level at the end of last year making this move the best option for staff and program. This move also caused changes for Seventh and Eighth grades. You should know, however, that there were no losses in academic opportunities or activities for students. Forced change is never easy, but we are confident in the professionalism and sincere interest of teachers and staff that the quality of education will continue and grow as it always has. Remember that as your representatives, Board Members encourage questions and suggestions from residents. Respectfully, Anthony Scalici, President Board of Education
